Bill Buckner Takes More Crap In Three Hours Than You Do In Three Years

It’s been nearly 25 years since Bill Buckner let a ball roll through his legs in the World Series helping allow the New York Mets to steal a pennant away from the Boston Red Sox. Since then everywhere Buckner goes he gets to hear about it. He’s been able to make somewhat a living off his infamy appearing at autograph shows and making assorted appearances, that in all honesty probably would not have happened had he not made the error, so life is not all bad. In the story Washington Times columnist Jason Black talks about being on the road with Buckner at an Oklahoma City minor league stadium autograph stop and seeing all of the crap that was thrown his way by the fans during the appearance. It’s a very good read and shows just how patient of a man Buckner is.

Triple-A Manager Brett Butler Talks About How Difficult It Is To Enforce Minor League Baseball’s Anti-Dipping Rules

Over his big league career, Brett Butler played for the Atlanta Braves, Cleveland Indians, San Francisco Giants, Los Angeles Dodgers, and New York Mets. For a large portion of that time Butler used dip. He eventually quit but it would prove to be too late as Butler was diagnosed with throat cancer which sidelined him during the 1996 season with the Dodgers. Since then he’s been outspoken against the use of smokeless tobacco. Butler is currently the manager of the Triple-A Reno Aces of the Arizona Diamondbacks organization. In the story Butler talks about Triple-A players dipping despite a ban in minor league baseball, players on his teams who have dipped despite knowing about his battle with cancer, the 10 year old boy who caused him to quit dipping cold turkey, and his desire to make it back to the big leagues as a coach. Solid read.

Catcher Brian Schneider Enjoys Giving Back At The Phillies Carpenter Cup High School Tournament

Since 1993 the Philadelphia Phillies have hosted teams of area high school all star players in a summer baseball tournament called the Carpenter Cup. Back in 1994 one of those all stars was current Phillies catcher Brian Schneider. Since joining the Phillies in 2010 after a decade long big league career with the Montreal Expos, Washington Nationals, and New York Mets, Schneider jumped at the chance to chair the tournament. It so happened that his old Carpenter Cup team Lehigh Valley won the 2011 championship, and as a result they were treated kings by Schneider at Citizens Bank Park. In the story, Schneider’s old Carpenter Cup coach talks about coaching Schneider and the experience had by this year’s Lehigh Valley team. It’s a pretty cool read.

The New York Mets are on the verge of trading Carlos Beltran to the San Francisco Giants for Zack Wheeler and a couple of other San Francisco Giants prospects (check back when the deal becomes official). He has 98 strikeouts in 88 innings and opposing batters are hitting just .224 against him. Wheeler was the 6th overall pick in the 2009 draft.

New York Mets Fan Makes Citi Field Security Look Foolish During Cat & Mouse Game On The Field

This pretty entertaining. A fan gets out onto the field during a St Louis Cardinals vs New York Mets game at Citi Field last week and makes the four security guys chasing him look absolutely foolish as they are unable to tackle him for a good 40 seconds. When they do finally catch him, they take him down hard. The video also shows just how far away the nose bleed seats truly are from the field. Warning: Mild profanity at the end of the clip.
