Even though this is over a year old, it doesn’t make it any less funny. One of my favorite Minor League Baseball clips ever. The Northwest Arkansas Naturals the Double-A affiliate of the Kansas City Royals partnered with Iams to help wayward pets find homes via the Iams Adoptable Pet of the Game promotion. This particular pooch shows his appreciation by getting loose, running around the field, and leaving the Naturals a little gift out in the outfield.
Multiple sources are reporting that the Kansas City Royals have promoted top catching prospect Salvador Perez to the big leagues. He is set to make his major league debut on Wednesday. The 21 year old is in the middle of a breakout 2011 season that has seen him hit a combined .290 with 19 Doubles, 10 Home Runs, and 53 RBI’s between the Double-A Northwest Arkansas Naturals and the Triple-A Omaha Storm Chasers. He has struck out just 36 times in 334 at bats. Perez is a home grown talent who originally signed with the Royals as a non drafted free agent back in 2006. He hit .290 with 21 Doubles and 7 Home Runs in a full season with the High-A Wilmington Blue Rocks in 2010.
One night after Luis Mendoza fired a controversial No Hitter in Triple-A against the Memphis Redbirds, the combo of Will Smith and Kelvin Herrera combined for a No Hitter of their own for the Double-A Northwest Arkansas Naturals against the Arkansas Travelers. Smith went 7 innings allowing no hits, a pair of walks, and striking out five. Herrera closed it out with two perfect innings in the eighth and ninth to close out the no hitter. In addition the Naturals turned a Triple Play after Smith walked the first two batters in the 6th inning. Travelers pitcher Matt Shoemaker was a very tough luck loser as he went 9IP, 1R, 0ER, 0BB, 8K’s and got the loss.
