Sorry it's taken me so long to get another journal entry going but it's really been busy here. Lots of traveling, along with some unexpected things, but I'll do better and keep you guys informed.

Well, lately we have picked up the pace to a point, going 7-4 in our last 11 games. I see that as a great improvement and evidence that we are going in the right direction.

Our starting pitchers have really been carrying the load as of late, going deeper in our games and have really taken the load off the bullpen. This past week we had quality starts from everyone of our starting pitchers. Sean Gallagher pitched another gem the other night, along with Matt Weber, Lee Gwaltney, Chris Shaver, and Jesse Estrada all earning wins in our last road trip. It's been fun to watch these guys pitch to their potential.

The bullpen has also been very effective with Jerry Blevins picking up several saves in his last couple of outings, and several other guys really digging in, deep in the game and locking it down.

On the other side of the ball, our offense has really made tremendous strides at the plate. They have given great support and put great amounts of pressure on the other team's pitchers, making it really easy to pitch relaxed and do our jobs as pitchers. I believe we scored somewhere between 5 to 8 runs in all our wins and the losses were close.

From a personal standpoint, it's been a little slower for me, which isn't always a bad thing. I had around 3 appearances and did pretty well, keeping my ERA low and not giving up the big hit.

Being a reliever is a great role I believe because it gives you the chance to rebound quick forom a bad outing or keep a good thing going. So as of late it's been pretty fun pitching and being involved in games we have won. Yet, that can all come crashing down if your don't show up ready and prepared.

It's also been one of the longest 10 days of my life with all the bus rides and the constant moving around. Needless to say some of that is my fault. My wife graduated from college this past weekend and I was able to fly home for one day and attend the ceremony. It was quite an ordeal but all turned out well. My agent Howard Kusnick and his son Josh Kusnick both considered me crazy for flying home for just 24 hours but it worked out.

Well guys, that's about all for right now. I'll update more often and keep it in a 7 to 10 day time frame. Keep reading and go Cubs!

Walt
