Alex Wimmers Throws No Hitter For Fort Myers Miracle

Minnesota Twins 2010 1st round pick Alex Wimmers threw a 7 inning complete game No Hitter for the High-A Fort Myers Miracle on Saturday night against the Jupiter Hammerheads. Wimmers who entered the game with a 1-3 record went 7 Innings allowing No Runs, No Hits, 2 Walks and 5 strikeouts. Jeff Dominguez tried to go yard on Wimmers final pitch of the 7th inning but it was caught on a leaping grab at the top the wall by Miracle right fielder Oswaldo Arcia to preserve the no hitter. It is the second career no hitter for Wimmers. His first came while at Ohio State.

Prospect Breakdown: Minnesota Twins Trade Delmon Young To Detroit Tigers For Cole Nelson

The Minnesota Twins have traded Delmon Young to the Detroit Tigers for pitching prospect Cole Nelson and a player to be named later. Nelson is currently 5-11 with a 4.87ERA in 105.1IP for the High-A Lakeland Flying Tigers in the Florida State League. The 22 year old lefty has struck out 87 and walked 50 and opposing hitters are batting .299 against him. Nelson made his pro debut in 2010 going 1-0 with a 0.66ERA in 27 innings between Lakeland and the GCL Tigers. The 6’7, 233 pound pitcher was a 10th round pick of the Tigers out of Auburn in the 2010 draft.

The Washington Nationals have traded journeyman infielder Jerry Hairston Jr to the Milwaukee Brewers for outfield prospect Erik Komatsu. The 23 year old Komatsu is currently batting .294 with 19 Doubles, 6 Home Runs, 40 RBI’s, and has 13 stolen bases for the Double-A Huntsville Stars. Last season for the High-A Brevard County Manatees the 5’10” left handed hitter had a breakout season batting .323 with 31 Doubles, 6 Triples, 5 Home Runs, 63 RBI’s, and stole 28 bases in the normally pitchers friendly Florida State League. Komatsu was an 8th round pick of Milwaukee in the 2008 draft out of Cal State Fullerton.

Derek Jeter, Ivan Rodriguez Lead 2011 Florida State League Hall Of Fame Class

New York Yankees captain Derek Jeter and Washington Nationals catcher Ivan Rodriguez are among 11 men announced as part of the 2011 Florida State League Hall of Fame class. Joining Jeter & Rodriguez will be Pittsburgh Pirates manager Clint Hurdle, former Cincinnati Reds pitcher Jose Rijo, and journeyman pitcher Gene Nelson among others including former World Series Champion reliever Darold Knowles. The induction is set to take place on November 2nd, 2011 in Daytona Beach Florida.
