VIDEO: Wade Boggs Talks About Coming Up Through The Minors And Gets Insulted By A Blue Jays Fan

Not sure where this was filmed, but Red Sox, Yankees, & Rays Hall Of Famer Wade Boggs talks to what, from the sound of the applause at the start of the clip, is a pretty small crowd in what appears to be a classroom of some sort. He talks about getting his education in the minor leagues, his big league career, and in perhaps the most entertaining part of the video, gets shown up by a Blue Jays fan who prefaces his question by reminding Boggs the Blue Jays won back to back World Series in 1992 & 1993. If you want to fast forward to the Blue Jays fan, his question comes at the about the 4:30 mark.

Journeyman Catcher Corky Miller Plans To Keep Playing Baseball As Long As People Are Offering Him Jobs

I’m not sure if it is a record, but Corky Miller has spent parts of the last 11 consecutive seasons playing in the International League including this season as a member of the Louisville Bats. He has also spent parts of the last 10 years playing in the big leagues, compiling a total of 199 big league games with the Cincinnati Reds, Minnesota Twins, Boston Red Sox, Atlanta Braves and Chicago White Sox. His career batting average in the big leagues is just .188 but his impact both in the majors as well as in Triple-A in helping develop pitchers, has kept Miller in baseball for all these years and led to lots of success for a number of current big league pitchers who Miller caught for in the minor leagues. In the story Miller talks about his journeyman career in which he has seen and done about everything there is to see or do, how he plans to continue to play baseball until teams stop calling, and stealing home his rookie season. Also some of the pitchers for whom he has caught offer their antidotes about Miller’s brutal honesty behind the plate. It’s a very good read.

Red Sox Prospect Will Middlebrooks Driven To Be An Impact Player In The Big Leagues

One of the biggest breakout prospects in the Boston Red Sox organization in 2011 has been third base prospect Will Middlebrooks. The 22 year old was promoted to Triple-A Pawtucket on Friday and for the year is hitting .300 with 26 Doubles, 21 Home Runs, and 86 RBI’s, most of which were put up in his 96 games for the Double-A Portland Sea Dogs. The 2007 5th round pick has seen his average and power numbers improve with each climb of the Red Sox organizational ladder. The next logical progression will be from Pawtucket to Boston. In the story Middlebrooks talks about his breakout season, looking up to Kevin Youkilis, and maintaining his approach as he progresses towards Fenway. It’s a very good read.

VIDEO: Tampa Bay Rays Security Destroys Fan Who Gets Loose On Tropicana Field

Note to drunk baseball fans, the security staff at Tropicana Field don’t mess around. A couple weeks ago we posted this video of a Tampa Bay Rays security staffer ripping a fan off the outfield wall. Today we give you this video where a Boston Red Sox fan got loose on the field during the Rays game against the Red Sox at Tropicana Field back in July. The dude gets DESTROYED. The WWE should come calling.

Salem Red Sox Fan Gets Fired Up After Manager Bruce Crabbe & Prospect Bryce Brentz Get Ejected Tuesday

Boston Red Sox prospect Bryce Brentz and Salem Red Sox manager Bruce Crabbe each got ejected during this past Tuesday’s game against the Myrtle Beach Pelicans. Crabbe believed Brentz had been hit by a pitch and is subsequently ejected after arguing his point. Brentz is then run a pitch later for saying something to the home plate umpire. The entertaining part of the video is the Salem fan who is clearly upset about the umpire’s judgement and expresses his displeasure as the argument on the field takes place.

VIDEO: Crazy Lightning Storm Postpones Wilmington Blue Rocks Game On Thursday Night

The Carolina League matchup between the Salem Red Sox and the Kansas City Royals High-A affiliate Wilmington Blue Rocks was postponed on Thursday due to inclement weather. A fan in attendance at Judy Johnson Field in Wilmington filmed the insane lightning show. A few seconds into the video it appears on bolt strikes extremely close to where they were standing. Scary stuff.

Jackie Bradley Jr Discusses Signing With The Red Sox Rather Than Chase A Third College World Series Championship

One of the many 2011 draft signing deadline deals that came down to the wire on Monday night was that of Jackie Bradley Jr. The centerfielder was the 40th overall pick of the Red Sox out of the University of South Carolina. Bradley had to chose between the $1.1 Million signing bonus the Red Sox had on the table or a return to the Gamecocks where he and his teammates would be chasing their third consecutive College World Series championship in 2012. In the end Bradley chose baseball and signed within the final 15 minutes before the deadline. In the story Bradley talks about his decision making prospect, tipping the scale with a visit to Boston, winning a second consecutive national championship, missing college life, and looking forward to what the future holds.

Yale Grad And Red Sox Prospect Ryan Lavarnway Talks About Overcoming The Ivy League Stigma

Perhaps the biggest breakout prospect of 2011 has been Red Sox catching prospect Ryan Lavarnway. Combined between the Double-A Portland Seadogs and Triple-A Pawtucket, Lavarnway is batting a combined .294, with 21 Doubles, 30 Home Runs, and 85 RBI’s. His previous career high in home runs had come in 2009 when he hit 21 long balls with the Low-A Greenville Drive. He was orginally a sixth round pick of the Red Sox in the 2008 draft out of Yale. In the story, Lavarnway talks about finally being noticed as a mainstream prospect, overcoming the stigma of the Ivy League baseball, and working hard every day to prove the doubters wrong.

Boston Red Sox Fan Lucky Not To Start A Riot In A Sea Of New York Fans During Yankees vs White Sox Game

This is something like you’d see in a Jackass movie. An overzealous Boston Red Sox fan decides it would be a good idea to jump on the dugout during a Yankees vs White Sox game last week at US Cellular Field and taunt the New York fans in attendance. Needless to say when he broke out a Boston Red Sox banner, it did not go over too well with the Yankees fans, including one fan in particular who rips the banner out of his hands and chucks it. After some more taunting the fan retreats to his seat where he is later presumably ejected from the stadium for dancing on the dugout during the game. Warning: Profanity in the video clip.

Fields was the 20th overall pick of the 2008 draft out of the University of Georgia.
