The Western Division out played the East, winning 134-129. The East was able to keep pace with the West through the play of Detroit native George Gervin. The Iceman, who was the catalyst of the San Antonio Spurs, scored 26 points. The fans were also marveled by the magical play of Pete Maravich. In his brief time on the hardwood the Pistol scored 10 points on 5 for 8 shooting from the field. The play of the Eastern All Stars was overshadowed by the MVP performance of the Denver Nuggets David Thompson.
