Brockton Rox Indy League Team To Sell $80 Hot Dog

In an attempt to enter the Guinness Book of World Records, the independent league Brockton Rox will sell an $80 Hot Dog starting on July 23rd which happens to be National Hot Dog Day. The dog will be a half pounder, deep fried and rolled in truffle oil, coated with porcini dust, sprinkled with white truffle shavings, and topped with creme fraiche, caviar and fresh roe. The previous record for most expensive hot dog is $69 at the New York City restaurant Serendipity 3. On the field, the Rox are managed by former Red Sox first baseman Bill Buckner.

Padres Sign Former Pirates 1st Round Pick John Van Benschoten To Triple-A Deal

The San Diego Padres have picked up 2001 8th Overall pick John Van Benschoten off the independent league York Revolution. The former Pirate who has not pitched in the majors since 2008 was 3-2 with a 2.91ERA for York. He was not quite as good in the majors going 2-13 with a 9.20ERA for Pittsburgh in 19 career starts. Van Benschoten talks about the Padres deal, getting a second chance at making the big leagues, and his experience in the Indy Leagues.
