Arizona Fall League Recap And Top Performances November 9th 2011

Lots of offense in the early games and solid pitching in the night game in Wednesday’s Arizona Fall League action. The Mesa Solar Sox defeated the Salt River Rafters 8-4. Brandon Short and Josh Vitters each had three hits for Mesa and Nolan Arenado blasted his 6th home run and drove in his 33rd run of the fall league season. The Surprise Saguaros got a two run 10th inning home run from Florida Marlins prospect Paul Gran as the big blow of a four run inning that helped propel the team to a 10-7 win over the Peoria Javelinas. In the nightcap, the Phoenix Desert Dogs picked up a 5-0 win over the Scottsdale Scorpions. Washington Nationals prospect Bryce Harper extended his hit streak to 15 games in the loss.

Arizona Fall League Recap And Top Performances November 8th 2011

The Peoria Javelinas pounded out 16 hits in a 13-3 win over the Mesa Solar Sox during Arizona Fall League action on Tuesday. San Diego Padres prospect Jedd Gyorko who leads the league in hitting, blasted his fifth home run as part of a 2-4 day that raised his average to .431 on the fall. Minnesota Twins pitching prospect Bruce Pugh was hit the hardest by Peoria, giving up six earned runs in two thirds of an inning. In the nightcap, Washington Nationals prospect Bryce Harper extended his Arizona Fall League hitting streak to 14 games during the Scottsdale Scorpions 2-0 win over the Salt River Rafters. Colorado Rockies prospect Tim Wheeler had a double, triple, and two walks in the losing effort for Salt River.

Arizona Fall League Recap And Top Performances November 1st 2011

Lots of offense on Tuesday in the Arizona Fall League. The Surprise Saguaros led by the strength of four home runs clawed out a 7-5 win over the Mesa Solar Sox. Kevin Mattison, Tim Beckham, Christian Bethancourt and Joe Terdoslavich all went yard for Surprise. The Salt River Rafters knocked off the Phoenix Desert Dogs 10-7. Nolan Arenado extended his league RBI lead driving in three more runs to give him 27 RBI’s in 19 games. In the nightcap, the Scottsdale Scorpions defeated the Peoria Javelinas by a final of 6 to 4. Bryce Harper continued to destroy Arizona Fall League pitching as he hit his 4th Home Run in the last five games and extended his hit streak to 11 games. His season average now stands at .290.

Arizona Fall League Recap And Top Performances October 31st 2011

The top two picks of the 2011 Major League Baseball Draft were on the mound in the Arizona Fall League on Monday. Top overall pick Gerrit Cole from the Pittsburgh Pirates went 3IP, 1ER, 3H, 0BB, 3K and got a no decision in his start in the Mesa Solar Sox 3-1 win over the Phoenix Desert Dogs. Danny Hultzen the second overall pick by the Seattle Mariners continued his strong fall going 4IP, 0ER, 2H, 0BB, 5K in the Peoria Javelinas 8-0 win over the Salt River Rafters. 2010’s top overall pick, Bryce Harper extended his hit streak to 10 games with a two hit day for the Scottsdale Scorpions who fell 8-5 to the Surprise Saguaros. The Washington Nationals prospect is now hitting .276 on the fall. He’s been on fire after a horrific first two weeks of the Arizona Fall League season.

Arizona Fall League Recap And Top Performances October 29th 2011

The 2011 Arizona Fall League season has been dominated by high powered offensive outputs, however on Saturday, Texas Rangers pitching prospect Miguel de los Santos and four others dominated on the mound as the Surprise Saguaros picked up an 11-0 win over the Phoenix Desert Dogs. De los Santos allowed one hit and struck out eight in five innings picking up the win for Surprise who struck out 13 as a staff in the game. Florida Marlins prospect Paul Gran added a Grand Slam Home Run for Surprise to pace the offense. The Mesa Solar Sox beat the Peoria Javelinas 8-5. Mesa was led by Chicago Cubs prospect Josh Vitters who had three hits including his third home run of the Arizona Fall League season. The Salt River Rafters got a solo home run by Los Angeles Dodgers prospect Kyle Russell in the top of the ninth to snap a 3-3 tie and give Salt River a 4-3 win over the Scottsdale Scorpions. Boston Red Sox prospect Will Middlebrooks hit his fourth home run in the losing effort.

Arizona Fall League Recap And Top Performances October 28th 2011

Lots of offense on display in the Arizona Fall League on Friday. The Mesa Solar Sox picked up a 10-3 win over the Peoria Javelinas. White Sox prospect Terry Doyle picked up his league leading 4th win with three scoreless innings for Mesa. Fellow White Sox prospect Brandon Short blasted two home runs and drove in four to pace the Solar Sox. The Phoenix Desert Dogs defeated the Surprise Saguaros 11-5. Michael Choice tied for the league lead in Home Runs with his 6th as part of a three hit, five RBI day for Phoenix. In the nightcap, the Scottsdale Scorpions beat the Salt River Rafters 9-5. Bryce Harper extended his hit streak to nine games with a two run home run in his final at-bat. It was Harper’s third Home Run in as many games.

Arizona Fall League Recap And Top Performances October 27th 2011

The Scottsdale Scorpions used a three run Walk Off Home Run by Washington Nationals top prospect Bryce Harper to beat the Mesa Solar Sox 8-7 on Thursday. Harper drove in four on the day and extended his hitting streak to nine games. On the other side of the ledger, fellow Nationals prospect Matt Purke was hammered once again, allowing three earned runs in one inning. His fall league ERA stands at 29.70. The Peoria Javelinas needed eleven innings to defeat the Phoenix Desert Dogs 7-5. Cleveland Indians prospect Roberto Perez was a triple shy of the cycle for Phoenix. Cincinnati Reds pitcher Aroldis Chapman went one and two thirds innings allowing one run on one hit while walking a batter and striking out one for Phoenix. The Surprise Saguaros scored two in the top of the ninth to pull out a 5-3 win over the Salt River Rafters. Nolan Arenado homered for the third consecutive game and drove in his league leading 23rd and 24th RBI’s of the year for Salt River.
