The staff of the Low-A Augusta GreenJackets worked overtime Wednesday night as a 50 foot section of the centerfield wall at Lake Olmstead Stadium was blown down during a Thunderstorm. After a tireless effort, that included a battle with a cluster of fire ants, the fence was rebuilt before the scheduled game time Thursday evening. However depsite their efforts more rain came into the Augusta area, and the GreenJackets Thursday night doubleheader with the Hagerstown Suns was postponed. Eight long years after being the 31st overall selection in the first round of the 2003 draft, Adam Miller is once again on the cusp of finally making it to the majors. Miller is back at Double-A Akron after missing the 2009 and 2010 seasons following his fourth surgery to repair ligament damage to the middle finger on his throwing hand. As unlikely as it would seem and despite a surgically disfigured finger, Miller has regained some of the form that once had him among the brightest pitching prospects in the game. Miller sat down with the Cleveland Plain Dealer’s Terry Pluto and talks about his long road back to baseball.
The Northwest League handed down suspensions for the July 11th brawl between the Spokane Indians and the Vancouver Canadians. Spokane’s Santo Perez and Jose Monegro will sit for three games. Rougned Odor who helped initiate the fight will sit for four games. Matt West, who was video taped throwing sucker punches was suspended six games by the league and had an additional four games tacked on by the parent Texas Rangers for a total of 10 games. The Texas Rangers have promoted Martin Perez to Triple-A Round Rock. The 20 year old was 4-2 with a 3.16ERA, struck out 83 and walked 36 in 88.1 innings pitched at Double-A Frisco.
The Washington Nationals have promoted Brad Peacock to Triple-A Syracuse. The 23 year old is in the middle of a breakout year. He went 10-2 with a 2.01ERA and had 129 strikeouts while allowing just 23 walks in 98.2 innings for Double-A Harrisburg. Eastern League hitters hit just .179 against the 6’1″ right hander.

A pair of Toronto Blue Jays prospects currently in the Dominican Summer League were suspended for violations of the Minor League Baseball Drug Prevention and Treatment Program. Aderly De La Cruz was 2-0 with a 3.60ERA in 15 innings this summer. Luillyn Guillen was 0-0 with a 1.13ERA in 8 innings.
