VIDEO: Host Families Provide Life Blood For Players In The Low Minors

Great story by Bill Geist of CBS Sunday Morning, who you can follow on twitter @billgeistone, on the host families of the Hudson Valley Renegades, the Tampa Bay Rays Short-A New York Penn League affiliate. The story focuses on the role that host families have on young players, essentially becoming a second set of parents for players, many of whom are away from home for the first time in their lives. Jane and Al Stewart who are among the pair of host parents featured in the story, once served as hosts for Josh Hamilton, Evan Longoria and Ryan Dempster during their time in the low minors. It’s a great video and gives an inside look at minor league baseball life off the field.

VIDEO: Wade Boggs Talks About Coming Up Through The Minors And Gets Insulted By A Blue Jays Fan

Not sure where this was filmed, but Red Sox, Yankees, & Rays Hall Of Famer Wade Boggs talks to what, from the sound of the applause at the start of the clip, is a pretty small crowd in what appears to be a classroom of some sort. He talks about getting his education in the minor leagues, his big league career, and in perhaps the most entertaining part of the video, gets shown up by a Blue Jays fan who prefaces his question by reminding Boggs the Blue Jays won back to back World Series in 1992 & 1993. If you want to fast forward to the Blue Jays fan, his question comes at the about the 4:30 mark.

Tampa Bay Rays Prospect Emeel Salem Who Doubles As A Recording Artist Releases New Single

It has been a bit of a lost season for Tampa Bay Rays outfield prospect Emeel Salem. An offseason knee injury has kept the 2010 Southern League All Star off the field in 2011. However the injury hasn’t kept him out of the recording studio. Salem recently released a new single titled “All About You” which is already receiving air play in the Birmingham radio market. In the interview Salem talks about his music and baseball careers. You can also listen to his new single “All About You” below. Also be sure to follow Salem on twitter @E_Salem

Today we give you this video where a Boston Red Sox fan got loose on the field during the Rays game against the Red Sox at Tropicana Field back in July. The dude gets DESTROYED. Tampa Bay Rays Outfielder Sam Fuld Talks About His 15 Minutes Of Fame

There hasn’t been a baseball folk hero in recent years bigger than Sam Fuld became in April. The Legend of Sam Fuld began at Fenway Park when the little known outfielder was a single shy of the cycle and instead legged out a double in the 10th inning against the Red Sox. In the same game he also made a highlight real catch. In subsequent games over the next few weeks there were more absurd defensive plays and offensive heroics. Fans on twitter jumped on the bandwagon and Sam Fuld was a trending topic throughout the country. In the article, Fuld talks about the opportunities that arose from his new found fame, dealing with the letdown as his 15 minutes of fame reach its final moments, and being able to use his fame to help benefit those in need. It’s a really good read.

This is one of the more entertaining fan on the field videos. Some dude got loose on the field during the Tampa Bay Rays vs Kansas City Royals game Wednesday night at Tropicana Field. The fan outruns security and tries to leap over the outfield wall but gets stuck half way over and gets taken down hard by a pair of security guards, one of which who has quite the vertical.
