September 1st Call-Ups Making Their Major League Debut

2011’s September Call Ups included nine players who will be making their major league debut as a result of their call ups. Here is a breakdown of all of them.

Jesus Montero – New York Yankees
The 21 year old catcher was the highest profile of baseball’s September 1st Call-Ups. Montero batted .288 with 19 Doubles, 1 Triple, 18 Home Runs, and 67 RBI’s for Triple-A Scranton, his second season at the Triple-A level. In 2010 he batted .289 with 34 Dobules, 21 Home Runs and 75 RBI’s. Montero is one of the top hitting prospects in all of minor league baseball and is expected to be a key contributor for the Yankees for years to come.

Kyle Hudson – Baltimore Orioles
The 24 year old outfielder is a speed threat on the bases tallying 115 steals in his first three full seasons as a pro including 41 in 2011. Across three levels this year Hudson batted a combined .296, with 13 Doubles, 2 Triples, and 23 RBI’s.

Devin Mesoraco – Cincinnati Reds
The 23 year old Mesoraco is expected to be a major presence in Cincinnati going forward. The top catching prospect in the organization batted .289 with 36 Doubles, 2 Triples, 15 Home Runs and 71 RBI’s for the Triple-A Louisville Bats this season. Mesoraco has a breakout 2010 season in which he blasted 25 Home Runs across three levels.

Luis Marte – Detroit Tigers
The 25 year old Marte is a reliever who has spent parts of the last four seasons with the Double-A Erie Seawolves. He is in the midst of a career year going 4-0 with a 1.92ERA in 25 appearances this season. He has 70 while walking just 22 in 56.1 innings between Erie and the Triple-A Toledo Mudhens.

Cory Kluber – Cleveland Indians
The 25 year old Kluber is a starting pitcher who will likely pitch out of the bullpen in Cleveland for the remainder of the season. He was acquired from the Padres in 2010 as part of a three team trade involving Ryan Ludwick and Jake Westbrook. Pitching for the Columbus Clippers, Kluber was 7-10 with a 5.65ERA this season. He had 67 walks and 140 strikeouts in 146.2 innings.

Nick Hagadone – Cleveland Indians
THe 25 year old Hagadone is a former starting pitcher who was converted to a reliever in 2011 with solid results. He was a combined 6-4 with a 2.79ERA in 71 innings between the Double-A Akron Aeros and Triple-A Columbus Clippers in 2011.

Jeremy Moore – Los Angeles Angels
The 24 year old Moore is an outfielder who is an extra base hits machine. In each of the last four seasons Moore has recorded double digits in Doubles, Triples, and Home Runs. This season for the Salt Lake City Bees, he batted .298 with 24 Doubles, 18 Triples, 15 Home Runs, 66 RBI’s and had 21 Stolen Bases. With Torii Hunter, Mike Trout, and Peter Bourjos in the Angels outfield it may be tough for Moore to find playing time despite his ability.

Josh Stinson – New York Mets
The 23 year old Stinson has flip flopped from a starter to a reliever throughout the majority of his minor league career. In 2011 Stinson has gone 7-10 with a 5.94ERA in 109 innings of work between the Double-A Binghamton Mets and Triple-A Buffalo Bison. Over his last 10 games Stinson has gone 2-1 with 6 saves and a 1.38ERA.
