Top Prospect
Alert - Brian Reith
Brain Reith: The Yankees sixth round pick in the 1996 draft is
probably the least known of the players sent by New York to Cincinnati in
the Denny Neagle trade.
Standing at 6-foot-5 and 195 pounds, Reith
has an above average fastball that could get better as this 22-year-old
develops more strength. He possesses good control and has shown a good
ability to change speeds.
Before the trade, Reith was 9-4 with a
2.18 ERA while pitching for Tampa in the Florida State League. Since the
trade over to the Reds organization, Reith has gone 2-1 with a 2.88
ERA.
After Rob Bell and Ty Howington, the Reds system is thin of
top-notch starting pitching prospects. Reith is someone who could turn out
to be a steal if he can steadily rise through the Reds system. At this
point though, he is probably 2-3 year's away from battling for a spot
in the Reds rotation.
