I’ve survived the first week of spring training. It was more than I had expected. I’ve been getting up about 6 each morning to catch the first bus to the field so I can get breakfast, maybe a workout if I’m not throwing that day, and get a stretch in before our baseball 101 sessions.

In the meetings they cover all kinds of topics and most are not necessarily about baseball. Most are about how to make your life better. Although they are early in the morning they often give me some good information that I can use off the field.

This week has been a lot of talking getting us used to all the plays that we run and what our responsibilities are on the field. We have had a lot of repetition on come backers, bunts, and covering first. We also just started throwing live sessions this week to get us prepared for games that start on Wednesday.

My first session went pretty well. I was just focusing on getting the ball down again and making the hitters swing the bat. I got a lot of ground balls so I cant complain about it.

My body has been pretty sore and tired this past week just trying to get used to all the workouts, running, and standing outside so much. Once I leave the field I usually head back to the hotel to lay by the pool for a little bit and then try to catch a quick nap before I go out to dinner. I’ve been going to Outback a lot since it is the closet place to eat.

Other than eating I went with a few guys to the movie “300” (its pretty good I thought) the other day just so I could get out of the hotel and do something other than baseball related. Its something that I realized I need to do more of. We are only a week in and its been pretty intense. Finding things outside of baseball will be something that will keep my mind clear and not so focused on baseball all the time.

Well its been a long day so far so I’m going to get some rest to get ready for tomorrow. Take care everyone.
